A hidden place full of mischief and adventures is the setting that Mrs. Amy Henkin used for her published chapter book, “Poppy’s Farm,” a story for children of all ages to enjoy.

“Every child reads at their own pace,” she said of the story that has several interactive pages at the end of some of the chapters. “The messages that I am hoping to send to my readers are that you should always follow your heart’s wishes even if it doesn’t seem possible.”

Before becoming a teacher aide at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School in 2016, Mrs. Henkin taught preschool and pre-K for 20 years at various schools. She is a 1991 graduate of Rocky Point High School as is her husband, Kipp Henkin, who graduated in 1990, and son Kipp Jr., who is a 2013 graduate. Her daughter Avary is a junior at the high school and daughter Ellise is in third grade at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School.

“I inspire students by encouraging them to always try their best even if the task given is not their favorite,” Mrs. Henkin said. To her surprise, she was recently presented with “Happy Birthday,” a book that was written and illustrated by students at FJC, adding to her hope that she can encourage children to get creative.

She is excited about the positive responses she has been receiving and the possibilities of highlighting her book at signings/author readings for children’s parties as well as various local preschools and daycare centers.
