It was a night to be swoopin’ and hoopin’ in Rocky Point! Administrators, teachers, coaches and support staff participated in the successful annual basketball game on March 15. Under the leadership and coordination of high school teachers Jill Ackermann and Carly Tribby, the event raised $1,913 this year.

The event was filled with cheers, laughs and camaraderie to raise money for the Be A Nicer Neighbor club fund. Club funds go towards community service projects and donations to high school students in need of financial assistance.

“We had so much fun and it was amazing to see our club members having a great time and working hard to raise money to give back to their community,” BANN club co-adviser Ms. Tribby said. “We truly cannot express how thankful we are for all of the help and support we received for this event. To all our players, volunteers, and everyone who helped us with organizing along the way we can't thank you enough. We also wanted to give a special thanks to our custodial and security crew.”

The evening began with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem by the talented Elyse Nadeau. From the start, the competition was a tough battle between the Whirlwind Warriors and Court Crusaders who went neck and neck for a majority of the game. In the end, coaches Julia Koproski and Mia Marmol led the Whirlwind Warriors to victory with a final score of 41- 36. In between quarters were amazing performances by the Rocky Point Sharks cheerleading team and the Rocky Point High School Rock Band! Manny Watkis and Colin Singh kept the crowd roaring throughout the game with their emceeing and Chris Fusco and Dom Tocci kept it an honest game with their fair refereeing.

Thanks to students Emma McKenna and John McKenna for documenting the evening with their wonderful photos!
