Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School did it again!

The school’s 5th Grade Student Council and the 5th Grade Select Chorus High Notes provided a musical morning for the Rocky Point community by hosting the annual Senior Citizen St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast.

According to Student Council adviser Mrs. Jean Costa, the students showcased their leadership skills by planning and organizing the event. The Student Council members greeted guests, handed out programs, helped guests to their tables, took food orders and helped serve breakfast.

The St. Patrick's Day Senior Citizen Breakfast was a great success, Mrs. Costa said. “We had our largest turnout ever with over 170 senior citizens and grandparents from the community attending. The Student Council members worked hard planning the event and their Rocky Point pride was evident as they waited on and served the seniors their breakfast. The High Notes chorus performed amazingly and the sense of joy and happiness the event brought to those in attendance could be felt by all in the room.”

The High Notes students, under the direction of Mr. Craig Knapp, performed 15 Irish music selections, including “An Irish Lullaby,” “Danny Boy,” “Emerald Isle,” “Molly Malone” and “There Must Be A Rainbow.” JAE band director Miss Cailyn Monastero and orchestra director Mr. David Ventura performed several songs during the breaks and Miss Jeana Prentice, Mr. Knapp’s student teacher, served as guest conductor.

Mr. Knapp emceed the event and shared the many months of preparations by the students that went into the successful morning. He applauded each student for their dedication and hard work and thanked district officials, families and community members for their continued support of the Rocky Point School District music program.

“I’m very proud of my 5th Grade Select Chorus students,” Mr. Knapp said. “The students worked very hard for many months preparing for this special event. Preparing and performing FIFTEEN songs is a monumental task for these singers, and they truly demonstrated what hard work and dedication can result in. I’m also proud of the 21 students who performed beautiful solos during this special event. The students and I were very thankful and appreciative for the warm response received after the performance. It was evident that the community members truly appreciated the efforts of the Student Council and High Notes students. It was truly a special morning and the students’ commitment and teamwork brought a great sense of joy and school spirit to the Rocky Point community. I am honored to be part of this annual tradition.”
