On Valentine’s Day, many Rocky Point Middle School students will receive a card, a purple rubber bracelet, an artificial rose, a note of kindness and a special song – “My Girl,” “Count on Me” or “L-O-V-E” – during their lunch period. It is just one part of the P.S. I Love You Day recognitions and celebrations that took place on Feb. 9 throughout the school.

Love is meant to be given. That was the theme of the annual day that encourages people to spread the message of kindness and love in the hope that everyone feels touched and inspired. Rocky Point Middle School joined hundreds of other participants in sharing the love. Many staff members and students wore purple to take a stand against bullying, help end depression, and understand that they are loved, special and never alone.

Students also wrote Valentine’s for Veterans cards, decorated posters for their friends and classmates, did some creative face painting and felt a genuine connection through the kindness of others.

P.S. I Love You Day’s vision is to create a world where people can reach out for help without stigma when dealing with their own mental illness or personal struggles.
