New York State’s diverse geography, climate, vegetation, state facts,
symbols and abbreviations were included in a social studies lesson in
Mrs. Theresa O’Brien and Mrs. Mara Lopez’s fourth grade class at JAE.
Logging into their Google Classroom via Chromebooks, the students took
part in a scavenger hunt and learned about the historic day that New
York entered the new union as the 11th of the original 13 colonies, that
New York City is its largest city, the state’s population and major
industries. The students also examined and identified the state’s key
physical features – mountains, rivers, and lakes, as well as the Long
Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.
