Rocky Point High School and Middle School students are helping younger students learn what it means to be a responsible member of the Rocky Point school community through a new, engaging Code of Conduct coloring book.

Freshman Carter Ford and eighth grader Nick Rivera recently visited Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School to lead an assembly introducing the new coloring book to students. The visit brought the project to life as students learned important lessons about positive behavior, with a special appearance from Rocky the Eagle adding to the excitement.

The coloring book was developed last school year by Carter, Nick, junior Ryan Fink, and recent grad Samantha Palmese, as student members of the district’s Strategic Planning Committee. The students worked together to create a resource that would make the district’s Student Code of Conduct accessible and engaging for students in grades K-5.

Throughout the book, students are introduced to important vocabulary and concepts, including respect, civility, honesty, integrity, citizenship, kindness and character. It also reviews behavioral expectations in a variety of school settings, including on the bus, in the classroom, in the hallways, during physical education, at lunch and at dismissal.

The project is a great example of Rocky Point students taking initiative and using their creativity to make a meaningful impact on younger members of their school community.
