Rocky Point celebrated the completion of two newly renovated instructional spaces on Aug. 20 with ribbon-cutting ceremonies at Rocky Point High School and Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School.

Administrators, members of the Board of Education, teachers, staff and representatives from John A. Grillo Architect gathered to officially open the newly renovated Rocky Point High School library and JAE art classroom.

The renovation of the Rocky Point High School library was developed as an initiative within the district’s Strategic Plan, specifically with feedback from the Academic Supports Focus Group. The completely redesigned library now provides seating for approximately 110 people and can accommodate approximately 30,000 volumes. The renovated library features updated LED lighting, refurbished mechanical equipment and improved heating and cooling. New carpeting and luxury vinyl wood flooring complement a variety of flexible seating and collaborative workspaces. Quiet study rooms provide students with dedicated areas for individual work, while a lounge area offers a comfortable space for personal reading. The library also features updated technology, including interactive televisions, computer systems, charging areas and internet and data ports throughout the space. 

The new design provides students with a flexible space where they can read independently, collaborate with classmates, complete coursework, utilize technology and access academic support in an environment designed to accommodate a variety of learning needs.

At Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School, the newly renovated art classroom was designed to create a more functional, organized and inspiring environment for student creativity. The renovation added storage space, mobile supply carts, and new tables and chairs that can be stacked and folded away, allowing the classroom to be easily reconfigured for collaborative instruction. The classroom also features a new built-in display and instructional area with a Smart Board and shelving with sliding marker boards. Fresh paint, new window treatments and a luxury vinyl tile artistic floor give the classroom a bright, updated feel designed to encourage creativity. Additional electrical outlets throughout the classroom provide convenient access for art equipment and light boxes.

The completion of the two projects marks another investment in the district’s facilities and its commitment to providing students with modern learning environments that foster creativity, collaboration, independence and academic growth.
