JAE Students Shine at First in Math Tournament in Albany

Three Joseph A. Edgar Elementary School students represented Rocky Point with pride at the First in Math 2026 New York Statewide Mathematics Tournament Championship Finals in Albany this past weekend. This event brings together students who qualified in the regional competition to showcase their mathematical thinking, problem-solving abilities and teamwork. Congratulations to Alex Koenig, Jack Koenig and Peyton Chudyk for their impressive accomplishments during this exciting academic competition!
The students worked together as a team, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills, dedication and exceptional sportsmanship throughout the event. Several tournament proctors recognized Alex, Jack and Peyton for being respectful, hardworking and positive representatives of JAE.
The team’s success was the result of their commitment and preparation. Through weekly practice sessions with third grade teacher, Ms. Kim O’Connor, they challenged themselves, supported one another and built the skills needed to compete against talented students from across the state. Alex, Jack and Peyton were honored for their success at the May BOE meeting with First in Math trophies and a plaque that will be proudly displayed at JAE. The school was also awarded $1,000 as a prize for having a winning team and this money will be used to purchase items to support student learning in mathematics and beyond!
