Sixth Graders Explore Ancient Chinese Calligraphy

Sixth graders in Mrs. Parise and Mrs. Pagnotta’s Humanities class at Rocky Point Middle School recently brought history to life through a hands-on lesson in the art of calligraphy.
As part of their study of Ancient China, students learned about calligraphy and how it was a highly respected art form in ancient culture, often held in greater regard than painting and sculpture.
To deepen their understanding, students welcomed Principal Dawn Meyers into the classroom for a special calligraphy lesson. The sixth graders tried their hand at the art form, practicing techniques and creating calligraphy of their own.
The lesson quickly became a favorite among students, who expressed their appreciation by writing thank-you cards to Mrs. Meyers and proudly signing their names in calligraphy!
