Winter Sports Athletic Achievements
The Rocky Point School District Board of Education, along with Jonathon Rufa, proudly recognized the outstanding achievements of its student-athletes during their winter seasons. This honor reflects not only athletic excellence, but also a strong commitment to academics, teamwork and leadership.
Across a wide range of sports, Rocky Point athletes earned prestigious distinctions, including NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Awards, All-County and All-State honors, league and sectional championships and individual program awards. Notable highlights included exceptional performances in swimming, wrestling, basketball, cheer, track and field, bowling and unified sports, showcasing the depth and talent of the district’s athletic programs.
Among the many honorees were Physical Education NYS APHERD Suffolk Zone Award winners Ava Almeida and David (D.J.) Xavier, and News12 Scholar-Athlete Award recipient Yuuki Donnelly, an achievement that brings such pride to Rocky Point.
In boys basketball, Peyton Reisinger was named League V Rookie of the Year and team MVP, while Aidan Todaro earned Academic All-County honors. For girls basketball, Kaleigh Moeller earned both Academic All-County and the Coaches Award, and Giuliana Tocci was named MVP. On the lanes, Avery Messana delivered an outstanding performance with an 11-strike, 279 game and was named bowling MVP.
Fencing standout Yannik Reyes captured the Section XI Foil Championship, while swimmer Trevor Green achieved All-State, All-County and Newsday All-Long Island honors, along with multiple Section XI titles and top finishes at the state level. The Unified Bowling team earned Scholar-Athlete recognition, with Bryanna Estevez Diaz named Most Valuable Player, Isabel Reyes receiving the Coaches Award and Nicholas Argentieri honored as Unsung Hero.
In indoor track and field, Silas Sannito and Ava Almeida were named team MVPs for the boys and girls teams, respectively. The cheer programs also saw strong success, with the gameday team earning a third-place Section XI finish and the competitive team capturing the Newsday Cheerfest Class B Championship and a second-place sectional finish.
Wrestling continued to be a major highlight, with Malachi Reid earning All-County honors, a Section XI placement and a berth in the NYSPHSAA championships. Tyler Callahan also earned All-County recognition. On the girls side, Zoey Hernandez and Katie Porcelli earned All-State honors, while Julianna Hernandez and Zoey Hernandez claimed Section XI titles in their respective weight classes. The team also saw multiple All-County selections and podium finishes across weight classes.
The Board of Education and Mr. Rufa commended all honorees for their dedication, perseverance and sportsmanship. Their accomplishments serve as a source of pride for the entire school community and reflect the values that define Rocky Point athletics.
