Middle School and High School Orchestras Perform at Annual “Night of Strings”
The Rocky Point Middle School and High School orchestra ensembles performed in the annual “Night of Strings” concert on March 18 in the Rocky Point High School auditorium.
Directed by Mrs. Meghan Walter and Mr. Nicholas Butcher, the concert showcased student musicians from across the district’s string program. The evening featured performances by the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade orchestras, as well as the High School Orchestra, highlighting the musical development of students as they progress through the program.
Each ensemble performed two selections during the concert. The program also included a combined performance by the seventh- and eighth-grade orchestras and concluded with a grand finale featuring the eighth-grade orchestra performing alongside the High School Orchestra. The collaborative performance provided eighth-grade students with an opportunity to experience performing with high school musicians and offered a preview of their future participation in the high school program.
“The Night of Strings concert is personally one of my favorite nights to highlight our orchestra family and the growth of all the children involved,” said middle school orchestra director Meghan Walter. “I am extremely proud of the teamwork, effort and dedication of all of our orchestra students. It is truly an honor to work with such talented students.”
Nicholas Butcher, orchestra director at both the middle and high school levels, said the concert highlighted the dedication and progress of the student musicians.
“The Rocky Point Night of Strings concert was a fantastic success, highlighting the hard work of our talented young musicians,” Butcher said. “Their performance was wonderful and I’m very proud of the growth they’ve made this year. It is an absolute joy to work with such a talented group of students, and I look forward to their continued success.”
In a joint statement, Rocky Point Music Department chairpersons Craig Knapp and Amy Schecher congratulated the students and thanked the directors, families and district leadership for supporting the program.
“The Night of Strings was truly exceptional and was enjoyed by everyone who attended this special celebration of orchestral music,” the statement read. “We are very appreciative of the work Mrs. Walter and Mr. Butcher do to provide enriching musical experiences for their students. We thank the parents for supporting their children’s interest in music and the Rocky Point administration and Board of Education for their continued support of the district’s music programs.”
