Rocky Point Middle School Students Participate in Internet Safety Program
Seventh-grade students at Rocky Point Middle School recently participated in an internet safety presentation led by the Suffolk County Police Department and Officer Allison.
The program focuses on helping students navigate the online world safely and responsibly. Discussing topics like online codes of conduct, the risks associated with using social media before age limits. Students learned about the dangers of oversharing personal information, including unknowingly sharing their location, and were encouraged to make thoughtful choices that prioritize personal safety. The presentation addressed emerging concerns such as deep fakes and the use of AI apps, as well as gaming safety and the importance of never sharing personal information with strangers.
Cyberbullying prevention was also discussed, with an emphasis on kindness, compassion and being positive members of the school community. Parents and guardians are encouraged to continue these conversations at home and to regularly check in with their children about online activity and digital safety.
