Rocky Point High School at the Teeny Awards!
Several Rocky Point High School students attended the Annual Teeny Awards ceremony recently. An annual event organized by East End Arts to recognize and celebrate excellence in high school theater on the East End of Long Island; the Teeny Awards are modeled after the Tony Awards and aim to elevate high school theater to the same level of acclaim as high school athletics.
Along with students from 21 other local high schools, the students dress their best and eagerly attend this event, which includes photos on the red carpet, performances by students from the local high schools, speeches and introductions by local theatre and entertainment professionals, and of course the presentations of awards.
Senior Derek Bergmann, who was both a nominee for three awards this year and a member of the Teeny Awards Student Council tasked with planning the awards ceremony, said “being a nominee and part of the Teeny Awards opening number was a truly unforgettable experience. The head coordinator of the event, Kasia Klimiuk, and Anita Boyer, who choreographed the opening number, were two of the nicest people I ever met, and I enjoyed working with them very much.”
“This was an incredible year for the Rocky Point High School theater program! From the intricate dances of “Hello, Dolly!” to the incredible camaraderie and acting displayed on the Pocket Theatre stage, the students have really raised the bar this year for Rocky Point theater,” said Ms. Jessica Spitz, co-advisor of the Thespian Society and Dramatic and Vocal Director of the Musical. Ms. Jaimie Mancini, co-advisor of the Thespian Society and Director of Pocket Theatre stated, “I am so proud of our accomplishments this year. The talent displayed on our stages have truly been some of our best work to date at Rocky Point. I am thrilled to see our theatre and musical programs continue to grow.”
The theater students would like to give a heartfelt thanks to their families and community for all the support and encouragement they receive for pursuing their passion for the theater, and to the administrators and Board of Education who come to see our shows and support the Rocky Point Theater Program.
