Five students from Rocky Point High School have been recognized for their outstanding athletic accomplishments by being named to Newsday’s All-Long Island teams for this past winter sports season.

Rocky Point wrestlers – brothers Anthony Sciotto, a senior, and Logan Sciotto, a sophomore – were named to Newsday’s All-Long Island Second team. Samantha Ferrara, a junior, was named Suffolk Cheerleader of the Year and a member of the All-Long Island team. Julia Buckley was named to the All-Long Island Second team. Brandon Epp was also recognized as a member of the Section XI State Champion team.

Cheerleading coach Anna Spallina was named Suffolk County Coach of the Year.

Following each competition season, Newsday staff members select Long Island high school students from each sport to be recognized as All-Long Island team members.

“It’s an amazing honor,” Samantha said. “It proves if you work hard all the time, it will work out in the end.”

In addition to the honors from Newsday, the Suffolk County Wrestling Coaches Association named Darren Goldstein the Suffolk County Division I Coach of the Year and on April 20, Darren was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
