Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School students have the chance to establish and maintain a network of support as well as develop valuable social skills through participation in the building’s Mentors and Mentees program.
The M&Ms program brings together volunteer staff members and students on a weekly basis. During this time, the pairs engage in games and recreational activities that carry the goal of improving self-esteem and fostering self-expression.
As part of National Mentoring Month, the mentees recently took time to celebrate their mentors during a winter event. The pairs came together to enjoy lunch and complete a winter craft for the special occasion.
“Our winter celebration was a time to get together and say thank you to our wonderful volunteers during National Mentoring Month,” said Jamie Adamski, school student assistance counselor and M&Ms program coordinator. “We have seen the positive impact made by these dedicated individuals, and it is so rewarding to watch the bonds between the pairs develop throughout the year.”
