Dear Parents / Guardians,
We are currently accepting applications for the summer 2021 Driver Education program. The program is only open to Rocky Point students. The cost for this semester is $200.00.
Please return the attached application along with a copy of the New York State Learner's Permit (front only) and a check or money order made payable to Rocky Point Schools to the above address by Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
Students will be notified of their acceptance on Wednesday, May 25th. The confirmation notice will be sent via parent email. The benefit of this program is it gives the student insurance discounts and a quicker access to a senior license. If your son or daughter does not get placed in this session, your check or money order will be returned.
Please note that students must be 16 years old and have a valid permit prior to Monday, May 17, 2021 in order to be accepted into this semester's Driver Education program. Placement for 64 students is by GRADE and then by DATE OF BIRTH ONLY, (example Grade 12, 12/15/03 goes before Grade 11, 11/28/03).
DRIVING SESSIONS: According to The New York State Education Department, parents/guardians have been authorized by the NYSDMV to conduct, monitor, and verify the 24 hours of student on-road training needed to complete the required student driver course work. A syllabus and log sheet will be provided, if accepted into the program.
LECTURE CLASSES: Classes will meet virtually. The students will be using Google Meet for Virtual Instruction, as well as classwork and tests that need to be completed. Virtual lectures will meet Monday through Thursday from either 11:00 am -12:30 pm or 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm. One makeup lecture class will be offered on Friday, July 30th. Students must complete 100% of the course work, 16 lectures, as well as the parent in-vehicle driving instruction to receive their completion certificate (MV-285) at the completion of the course.
