After a number of virtual meetings and after only practicing in person since February, the Rocky Point Middle School robotics team has qualified for the Long Island championship to be held remotely on April 17. Along the way, the team earned the Innovation Project Award at the qualifying tournament last weekend.

The theme of the competition this year is “Replay,” in which teams were tasked with ways to keep people active. The team’s research project, while working with the Middle School coding club, was creating an app that would interface with exercise equipment at Planet Fitness to confirm achievement goals to earn rewards – thus helping to maintain members’ New Year’s resolutions throughout the year.

Congratulations to Matthew Blaising, Kristian Hald, Allyson Opitz, Micah Santiago and Sofia Santos and a special thank you to Coach Moorman as well Mrs. Eilers and the Middle School coding club!
