As a culmination to their study on Native Americans, Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School fourth-graders in Patricia Alberti’s class put their knowledge to the test as they constructed either a longhouse or wigwam using simple materials.

The students began the project by gathering natural materials, such as sticks, clay, bark, and leaves, just as Iroquois and Algonquian children did while helping their families. In addition to creating realistic homes, many students also included scenery that depicted early farming societies.
