Joseph Edgar Intermediate School fifth-graders in Dave Falcone’s class learned about the ever-changing world of the New York Stock Exchange and achieved high success in this fall’s Stock Market Game.

During the multiweek contest, the students were given a hypothetical $100,000 to invest in an online portfolio. They learned about the fundamentals of investing and how properly researching a company can prove helpful when selecting investment opportunities. The stocks chosen by the class varied from such things as restaurants, beverage companies and department stores.

As a result of their efforts, two teams from the school placed in the Top 20 out of 114 teams across Long Island. The team comprised of Madison Healy, Samantha Manning and Cheyenne Morgan placed 12th and the team made up by Lea Celentano, Elyse Nadeau and Angelina Schmidt finished in 19th place.

The Stock Market Game is a program of the SIFMA Foundation (Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association).
