Studying Family Cultures

Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School second-graders in Christina Capaldi and Erin Glennon class learned about their family history through a series of hands-on projects.

In school, the class discussed the meaning of such concepts as rituals, traditions, culture, community and the different holidays that are celebrated around the world. With the help of their families, the students each created poster boards visually displaying their family’s traditions and culture.

Connecting with the grade’s English Language Arts curriculum, the students penned original books about their families. Using the lessons they learned in class, their books included dedication pages, information on the author as well as details about what the term ‘family’ means to them.
