As a result of a comprehensive application process and a successful on-site visit from international education leaders, Rocky Point Middle School has been selected to receive the 2016 Inviting School Award from the International Alliance for Invitational Education. Only two other middle schools and two other high schools in New York earned this distinction for 2016.

The award is presented to schools that have created environments in which all students and staff can realize their full potential and have aligned their practices with the principles of the IAIE. Award-winning applicants are recognized for being intentionally optimistic, respectful, trustworthy, and promoting caring through the people, places, policies, programs and processes of the school.

“You are to be commended for the outstanding learning climate produced for students, parents, staff and community,” the Inviting School Award Committee noted in their announced letter. “The efforts expended in telling your story were clearly evident and the knowledge of Invitational Education and implementation of IE learning have made the school a better place for all stakeholders.”

“I am so proud of Rocky Point Middle School for being named a 2016 Inviting School Award recipient by the IAIE,” said RPMS Principal Dr. Scott O’Brien. “RPMS was noted for the high levels of inviting practices that have been created in the school as demonstrated by the portfolio submission and multiple school visits. Respect, trust, care, optimism and intentionality are qualities that the awards committee and school assessors found consistently among people and practices at our school.”

School representatives will be presented with the official award during the IAIE world conference in Lexington, Kentucky, in November.
