Animal Study

As a conclusion to a month-long study on mammals, second-grade students in Maria Liantonio and Elisa DiGennaro’s class at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School shared comprehensive research projects with peers and family members.

As part of the study, the students selected a mammal to research and used various informative texts to learn about all aspects of that creature, including its habitat, physical characteristics, diet and various interesting facts. Using the skills they learned in English language arts, the second-graders used their findings to create visual posters displaying their research. They organized facts into concise bulleted items, wrote paragraphs describing features and incorporated nonfiction text features, such as pictures, graphs and captions, into the completed poster.

Throughout the ending celebration, the students took turns presenting their research projects.
