Raising Awareness

To promote a deeper understanding of food allergies, Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School celebrated New York State’s official Food Allergy Awareness Week this May.

During the celebration, the color teal – the official color encouraging food allergy awareness – covered the school community. Teal ribbons decorated trees outside the school, and students and staff wore the color in unison on one day. Additionally, interesting food allergy facts were announced each day, related books were read in classes, and the entire school learned how to “be a PAL” and protect those with food allergies. Students also entered a poster contest by creating visual displays on the topic.

The school’s Shared Decision Making Team coordinated the weeklong initiative.
