The complex subject of animal hibernation and winter weather was the center of a recent project in Cathy Conner’s class at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School.

With the help of paper mache, the students created a classroom cave for several stuffed animals. After fashioning the structure, they painted and decorated it before placing the animals inside for the winter. The class discussed the importance of this action and how a sign of spring is when these animals begin to wake.

Inside the structure is a variety of species, including a sleeping bear, a snake, a turtle, bats, a raccoon, a frog and a chipmunk.
