With community service and kindness in mind, Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School’s second-grade service squad teamed up with two classes at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School to collect more than 150 pairs of pajamas for a local Suffolk County shelter through the Scholastic Book Club Pajama Program. As part of the initiative, Scholastic will match each of the schools’ donations with a picture or chapter book.

As part of the initiative, JAE students in Debbie Vieira and Lisa Celentano’s class as well as Kristie Jackson’s class hosted a Great Pajama Drive Writing Celebration. To prepare for this event, the students created their own bedtime stories. They worked through the writing process in groups, drew pictures in connection with their stories and presented their final pieces during a writing celebration for classmates and family members.
FJC’s service squad members also drafted bedtime stories that corresponded with the pairs of pajamas they selected.
