Home Run Volunteers

Rocky Point Middle School and High School baseball teams are not only strong competitors on the field, but also strong advocates for service within the community. As has become tradition, the teams joined together this fall to volunteer at Maureen's Haven homeless shelter.

The teammates spent weeks preparing for their visit to the shelter by collecting items such as hats, gloves and rain ponchos and baking homemade goodies like cookies, brownies and muffins. They also collected leftover Halloween candy to make treat bags for the homeless and purchased more than 50 gift cards to give as holiday gifts.

During their visit, the students set up the shelter’s beds, set the dining table and packed lunches for the next day. They also spent a great deal of time making the shelter look festive for the adults who need a safe place to stay.

The teams’ coaches said they have plans to volunteer at Maureen’s Haven again in March.
