In honor of Military Appreciation Month, second-grade students in Stacy Iberger’s class teamed up with the kindergarten students in Karen Nicholson and Jessica Lukas’s class at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School for the building’s annual Lunch Bags of Love event.

During the project, the students wrote letters to the soldiers, thanking them for sacrifices made for their country, and decorated paper lunch bags with patriotic themes. The packages were then filled with treats, card games, toiletries and other supplies before being boxed up and shipped to several deployed soldiers and one local hero who was injured while serving. Several local veterans, parents and Councilwoman Jane Bonner were on hand to help out during the process.

Ms. Iberger has organized the program for the past seven years, and this year’s effort produced 18 large boxes filled with donations.
