Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School students and staff members helped to honor the nation’s heroes by coordinating a Veterans Day celebration in November.

During the event, the students paid tribute to the community’s veterans through music, written words and technology-based projects.

After the VFW Post 6248 presented the colors, members of the select chorus, High Notes, performed several patriotic songs. The student council shared personal essays, and members of the Technology Club explained the meaning of the POW/MIA remembrance table on display. The Technology club also showcased their video “Honoring our Heroes.” To view the video, visit:

After introducing themselves and explaining which branch of the military they served and when, the veterans in attendance were presented with a special letter of thanks from the student council.

Several politicians were also in attendance at this year’s ceremony, including newly elected New York State Congressman Lee Zeldin, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory and Town of Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner.
