Dear Rocky Point School Community,

Hello Rocky Point School Community! This is Scott O’Brien, Superintendent of Schools. For this weeks’ video I’m here at Rocky Point High School and I would like to start by speaking directly to our students.

I know this time has brought on a number of challenges and I encourage you to continue to do your best, as I know you will. Reach out to your teachers, school counselors, and administrators should you need any help or support. We may not be in the same building right now, but we are still here for you.

To the Rocky Point High School Class of 2020, senior year is a time for celebration and is meant to be a joyous year. I know you are filled with questions about the events planned for the remainder of the year and what the weeks ahead will look like. Please know we will take the time to enjoy those rights of passage together when the time is right. While no decision has been made about these future activities - graduation, prom, and awards ceremonies - just know that we remain committed to addressing these important celebrations!
The New York State Education Department has cancelled Regents examinations for June 2020. Additionally, our district has decided to cancel all end of year final examinations in secondary courses. This means the work you are completing and submitting online will become your fourth quarter average and will be combined with quarters one through three for a final average. Please continue to submit your work online and reach out to your teachers with any questions.

As announced yesterday, schools will remain closed through May 15th. Our teachers continue to increase interaction in our virtual learning delivery through Google classroom, Google forms and a number of other programs and platforms that provide feedback to our students. In addition, teachers will be providing direct instruction to all students through recorded audio lessons that will be posted to eBoards and Google Classrooms. (The eBoard link is on the school homepage and can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/rpeboard) These enhancements to our virtual learning program are designed to increase student and teacher connections and best learning practices.

If you have any questions you can email your child’s teacher or principal. In addition, you can also use our website helpdesk or live phone help desk. The number is 631-982-4775. (The link to the online help desk form can be found on the school website on the home page or directly accessed by clicking https://tinyurl.com/rpparenthelp. The help desk will be open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to noon and from 2:00 PM to 7:30 PM.)

Thank you for working together to support our students. We hope you and your families are well and we look forward to being back together as soon as possible.

Dr. Scott O’Brien
